First time on a reformer?
Reformer Pilates for complete beginners
Walking into a busy reformer class with no idea what a footbar or a carriage is can be intimidating. At Nesly Pilates your first sessions are private, so you learn the machine, the breathing and the basic principles properly – and then decide how you want to continue.
What you'll learn in your first few sessions
We follow a gentle, logical progression rather than throwing everything at you at once:
- How the reformer works: springs, carriage, footbar and straps, and how to get on and off safely.
- Breathing and finding a neutral spine – the foundation of every Pilates exercise.
- Footwork, leg and arm springs, and simple core work that switches on the deep abdominal muscles.
- How to feel the difference between working hard and straining, so you can pace yourself.
Why private beats a class for beginners
In a class the instructor splits attention between eight or ten people; small errors in alignment go unnoticed and the pace is set by the room. Privately, we can stop, adjust and repeat until a movement feels right. You will progress faster, and more safely, than you would in a group – and if you later join a class elsewhere you will arrive knowing exactly what you are doing.
No commitment needed
Book a single session for £25 to see how you get on. If you enjoy it, a 5-pack (£115) or 10-pack (£220) brings the price per session down. Bring a friend and share a Duet at £20 each.
How booking works
Pick a session type and a time on the live calendar, tell us a little about yourself, then pay by card or at the studio. The whole thing takes about two minutes and your confirmation e-mail includes a calendar file.
- Only genuinely free slots are shown – no back-and-forth messages.
- Complete the short health form once; it is kept private and reviewed before your first visit.
- Reschedule or cancel yourself, free of charge, up to 2 hours before the session.
- Buy a 5- or 10-session pack later if you decide to continue – your first session never has to be a commitment.

Frequently asked questions
I'm not flexible or fit – is that a problem?
Not at all; that is exactly what Pilates is for. The springs support you as much as they challenge you, and every exercise can be scaled down.
How long before I notice a difference?
Most beginners feel more aware of their posture and core after two or three sessions, and noticeably stronger within six to eight weekly sessions.
Is there an age limit?
Clients must be 18 or over. There is no upper limit – controlled, supported reformer work is excellent for maintaining strength and balance as we get older.
Do I need to complete anything before I come?
A short health form when you book, so we know about any injuries or conditions. It takes about two minutes.
